Greenhouse Sun Shade

Getting the shade tent over the greenhouse was a bit challenging, as I had to avoid snagging it on the screws at the top of the greenhouse. However, I eventually managed to complete the task. Initially, I bought four 40% shade covers, each measuring 3′ x 10′, believing I could tuck them under the metal dividers between sections. This turned out to be quite difficult since the shade needed to be wider to effectively fit under both sides, so I abandoned that plan. My initial aim was to do that to protect the shades from our crazy wind.  I was also thinking maybe it could help have the roof windows open and deter larger insects from getting in, and protect the windows from any strong gusts. However, the 3′ width was inadequate for the windows to open fully, so I opted for an 8′ x 10′ cover to finish the remaining two sections. If I struggle with the heat later in the summer I might try installing automatic window openers under that wider shade for those two windows to see if they function well, keep the bugs out, and stay protected from wind.  For now, I’m working on regulating the temperature without having to open any windows or doors.  I’ve noticed that the shades are successfully lowering the temperature during the hotter spring days. I made an effort to position the shade high enough on the south side to let in the lower winter sun while blocking the more intense summer and late spring sunlight.  We’ll find out how durable these are during the windy season.
