Eye Health Tincture

Unfortunately, as I age, I’ve noticed a decline in my eyesight compared to how it once was. I’ve been lucky enough to avoid the need for glasses or contacts throughout my life. Lately, I’ve noticed that my vision isn’t as sharp when looking at things far away or at night. To prevent further deterioration and to assist my parents eyesight, I began looking for a tincture recipe that might help slow down and possibly improve my sight. I came across a recipe, How to Make an Herbal Tincture (or Tea) for Eye Health! on Healing Harvest Homestead’s website.

Creating the tincture is a straightforward process. To begin, you’ll need to either buy or gather your own herbs, Bilberry leaf, elderberries, calendula, eye bright, and turmeric.  It took me awhile to find eye bright, but I eventually did at Starwest Botanical. In addition you’ll need 80 proof vodka, some measuring tools, and a container to keep the tincture in.

To incorporate the herbs in “parts,” choose a jar that can accommodate 3 parts bilberry leaf, 2 parts elderberries, 2 parts calendula, 1 part eye bright powder, and 1 part turmeric. In total, you need to fit 9 parts into the jar where you’ll be preparing your tincture. Since I plan to use this tincture for the long term and share with others, I opted for a 64 oz jar and used a 1/3 cup measuring cup for measuring the parts. After adding all 9 parts I still had plenty of space so I added a 2nd round, so I ended up with 18 parts total.  Then poured the vodka over it and shook it up real good.  Now it will sit in my office window for the next 4-6 weeks while it infuses.  I’ll so my best to shake it on a daily basis.

I’ll provide you with an update in 4-6 weeks after I filter the herbs and take the tincture for a couple weeks or so.  I’ll keep you posted on if I see if there’s been any improvement in my eyesight.
