Black Drawing Salve Recipe

Last night, I finally whipped up the Black Drawing Salve from Heidi’s Healing Harvest Homestead — something I’ve been itching to concoct for ages! Word on the street is that it works wonders for splinters, insect bites, stings, and other delightful surprises Mother Nature throws our way. My husband’s a magnet for splinters, so I’m thrilled to have this salve ready to rescue him from his own clumsy adventures instead of him turning into a DIY extraction expert. Plus, it’s nice to be prepared in case those pesky wasps decide to turn our backyard BBQ into their buffet. My bees have been pretty chill so far, but those wasps? They’re like the party crashers of the insect world.
Now, I haven’t had the pleasure of trying this salve myself yet, but I can already picture the activated charcoal being a bit of a drama queen when it comes to application. I mean, who doesn’t want their skin looking like a Picasso painting after a treatment? So, I think it’s a brilliant idea to throw in a bandage — like a superhero cape for the salve — to keep things tidy and ensure it doesn’t wander off from where it needs to be.
As for my infused oil concoction, I went all fancy and used two different oils for my 1/3 cup masterpiece. Half of it was Calendula-infused olive oil, and the other half was Plantain-infused olive oil — because why not mix it up a little? I’m keeping my creations cozy in two adorable 2-ounce tin containers. They’re practically begging for a tiny label that says “Potion No. 9!” The recipe is in the Ditch the Drugstore book and on Heidi’s Healing Harvest Homestead website.
