Top Feeder with Sugar Water

So, today I decided to play the benevolent bee overlord and installed a top feeder on the hive. I figured the little buzzers could use a snack as autumn creeps in and the flowers fade into oblivion. I whipped up a 2:1 sugar water mixture for their culinary delight. Now, I could’ve opened up the hive and gone all Sherlock Holmes on their little world, but I opted for the “don’t bother the bees while they’re dining” approach.
Peeking inside the upper box was like stepping into a ghost town – not much buzzing going on up there! Meanwhile, the entrance looked like a bee rush hour, with tiny creatures zipping in and out like they were late for a very important meeting. I can only assume the majority were off on their grand adventures or holed up in the lower brood box, plotting buzz-worthy escapades.
As I was keeping an eye on the front door, I spotted a bit of bickering — looked like a bee brawl, maybe an attempted heist! With fall in full swing and all the buzz about bees trying to pull a fast one on other hives, I decided it was time to play bouncer. I made the entrance as tiny as possible, thinking it’d be a breeze for my girls to fend off those would-be robbers. Turns out, they handled it like pros! Go team! 🐝💪
I’ll be the vigilant water inspector, topping up the hive’s drinks until I slap on that candy board. I’m still on a quest to figure out the perfect moment for that sweet addition — stay tuned for the suspenseful reveal!
