Beekeeping Course Reviews

For the past few years, I’ve been interested in becoming a beekeeper and have attempted to educate myself on the subject. However, I often found myself distracted by other commitments, which hindered my progress. This spring, as the deadline for ordering bee packages approached, I made the decision to take the plunge and purchase one. I realized that I needed to immerse myself in learning as much as I could before the bees arrived.
The initial course I enrolled in was offered by Colorado State University online for non-credit students. I was drawn to this program because it was specifically designed for the Colorado and Mountain West area, where I reside. I opted for the complete course, which includes six modules. However, I haven’t been particularly impressed so far, as most of the content is text-based. If I had realized it would essentially be an online book, I likely wouldn’t have signed up. In my opinion, having videos is crucial for observing beekeeping techniques in practice. While I may eventually complete this course, I’m currently shifting my focus to another program that better supports a visual learning style. Unfortunately they have a zero refund policy for their course. The moment you hit pay now, there’s no turning back. Good chance because too many would ask for a refund since they’re basically buying an expensive online book.
I’ve always been fascinated by the flow hive due to its simplicity in honey extraction. However, as someone new to beekeeping, I hesitated to invest a significant amount without first testing it. So I purchased a simple langstroth hive. But while looking at the flow hive I noticed they offer an online course with a 30 day trial. It appeared to be mostly videos so I figured it was worth a shot especially since there was a free trial. I had nothing to lose. I have gone through half of it and absolutely love it. They have detailed videos on how to do pretty much everything you’d need. I’d highly recommend this course if you’re looking to get into beekeeping or just to learn more about bees.
