In today’s inspection, I intended to check the lower brood box, but when I attempted to remove the top brood box, I found it to be quite heavy. My bees have been working hard. Concerned about potentially dropping the box, I opted not to inspect the lower brood box this time.
For the top brood frames I only inspected the outer frame. One of them they were adding a little area of cross comb again with honey. Fortunately it wasn’t much so I removed it. Only each of the outer most frames had any open frames so I sprayed them good with sugar water.
Since they had built so much on that that top brood box I decided I should probably add another box, this one a honey super. So I added a queen excluder to keep the queen in the lower brood boxes. I sprayed the inner frames good with sugar water to get them started on building comb in their new super.
I did some research after the inspection and found that some beekeepers who have issues lifting a 10 frame brood box once it gets close to full temporarily move each frame to a spare brood box after inspecting each of the frames. So next inspection I plan to bring a spare box to move each frame over after they are inspected. Then I can remove that box and inspect the lower brood box. Once done inspecting it, I’ll put the original box back and move each frame back from the temporary box.
